Thankful Thursday, Vol. II No. 23

14 August 2008

I’m thankful to have completed a few of our subjects for the past school year as we wrap up one year before tackling the next.  Thing 3 is so excited to start her classes this year.  She is frustrated that she can’t read many words yet, but I think she’s under the false impression that a couple of days of school will have that problem solved!

I’m thankful Thing 4 is able to go to Art Smart again this year.  It’s a good experience for her.  I was reading an article on the expectations placed on the only children in China, from birth being prepared for the ‘tall test’ and, as the future glory and support for the parents, being expected to achieve more.  It mentioned that in one school all 3 yr olds are expected to memorize pi to 100 digits.  I’m so glad we can just let the kids learn through play at that age.

I’m thankful J3 arrived safely and that we have the freedom to meet and pray for them freely.

I’m thankful for The Husband who took the kiddos on a 45 minute bike ride on Tuesday night so I could have a little quiet to think and read.

Thankful Thursday, Vol. II No. 22

7 August 2008

I’m thankful for the opportunity to see a couple of people who are very precious to me and to meet their daughter:

What a cutie, even long past her bedtime. It is such an encouragement to me to see people who were with us for a short time, now far away and still faithfully following Christ. It was also fun to socialize with a couple of local families that we used to be in small group with but haven’t spent much time with lately.

I’m thankful the ‘dog breath days of summer’ don’t last longer than they do. I’m thankful I can stay cloistered in my air conditioned house for the worst of the heat and humidity.

Oh, That’s Right . . .

1 August 2008

I have a blog over here. :-P Pfffttt *blows dust off the blog*

I’ve been a little busy and blogging hasn’t just taken a back seat — I tied it on the bumper so it wouldn’t fall off, but it did and now it’s running behind trying to catch up.

Um, where were we?

Thankful Thursdays?

I’m thankful we don’t run a boarding house, an idea we toyed with at one point in our lives. I’m just *waaay* too introverted to deal with people in my space 24/7. It’s fun to host people and we enjoyed all the people we had here the last few weeks, but it is exhausting for me.

I’m thankful that, although errand running took us 4 hrs today, the kids and I had a few fun stops along the way.

I’m thankful for books on CD. As a family we just seem to really love story telling. Today we started listening to The BFG by Roald Dahl.

I’m thankful for the godly women the Lord has brought into my life over the years. There are those who light the path before me, those who walk alongside me, and those who are now passing the roads where I have been. I was thinking today especially how precious to me are those ladies who have been a guide in my life. Thank you, Lord, for Carolyn, Mary Lou, Mary, Olivia, Glenna, Vicki, Dorothy, and the many others.

Blog Reading

12 July 2008

This is a blog I’m reading lately. It’s a 16 yr old boy who is attempting to break the record for the youngest person to solo circumnavigate the world. He left a few weeks ago from California and is now in Hawaii. He’s been on boats all his life and his entire family spent the last three years on a boat to prepare for this trip.

Back From Big Sky Country

12 July 2008

We’re back from Montana and the BIL/SIL with niece and nephew stopped by for one night on their way back to Boston. It was a fast trip with a little time for story telling and a little time for music. Although our back window shattered just a few miles into the return trip, we were able to cover it with plastic and duct tape and carry on. We left at 3:30 AM Montana time (4:30 AM IL time) and made it home by 4 AM the following morning, driving straight through. I wouldn’t recommend that, for future reference.
